Youth Programs
The Martinez Gun Club works closely with the Boy Scouts of America to bring shooting sports and shooting safety training to our youth.
Our club is located in the Muir District of the Mt. Diablo Silverado Council
and the Martinez Gun Club currently hosts two programs with the Muir District:
a Shooting Sports Merit Badge Camp and a Marksmanship Camp.
Both Scout camps are supervised by NRA and BSA certified range instructors and are
intently focused on learning and exercising range safety throughout camp.
Shooting Sports Merit Badge Camp is a weekend program in the fall (September 12, 13, 2008)
designed to fully qualify Scouts for their shotgun, rifle or archery merit badges.
This camp gives Scouts an opportunity only otherwise available at Scout summer camps.
In fact, this dedicated weekend gives them more hands-on qualifying shooting time than they normally get in a
whole week at summer camp where shooting merit badges are only a small portion of those camps!
In 2007, 58 out of 59 Scouts earned their merit badge!
Marksmanship Camp is Saturday camp in the spring (May 10, 2008) designed as an opportunity for Scouts to practice their shooting skills
in all three shooting sports; shotgun, rifle and archery and earn individual marksmanship awards based upon nationally recognized standards.
Of course, Scouts Troops and Crews are always welcome to shoot at our club as part of their Troop program.
The Martinez Gun Club is proud to have the opportunity to offer our facilities for youth programs,
and of course we invite the whole family to join the Martinez Gun Club!
