Youth Programs
Scholastic Clays
The California Youth Shooting Sports Association Schools and Clubs Target Program is a youth development program focused on providing young people with
a positive experience in the sport of trapshooting.
It is an opportunity for young people to participate in a supervised shooting sports program that emphasizes safety and skill development in clay target shooting.
The program focuses on teaching sound shooting fundamentals, safe firearms handling, commitment, responsibility, leadership and teamwork.
All young people 9 years and older are welcome. They participate in three divisions: Rookie (5th grade or below), Intermediate (grades 6 through 8)
and Senior (grades 9 through 12). The senior and intermediate divisions has two categories based on the participants level of achievement.
At Martinez, Scholastic Clay practices are every Saturday from 10:30am-12:30pm.
Youth members must maintain a C average verified with report cards and a parent or guardian must be a club member.

Martinez Gun Club Hosts Scholastic Clays Tournament!!
Saturday April 9 the Martinez Gun Club hosted it's first California Youth Sport Shooting Association (CYSSA)
shoot hosting more than 230 youth shooters plus their families, coaches and friends.
This was the biggest shoot hosted by the club in many years and the club was buzzing with activity!
By everyone's standard the shoot was a huge success and the management of CYSSA,
the shooters and all who attended could not have been happier with the facility, food, family atmosphere and efficiency of the event!
Without the commitment of the club volunteers and club management a shoot of this size could never have happened, and certainly wouldn't have been such a success!
Special thanks to all of the members, scorekeepers, trap boys, tram maintenance help, food preparers and servers, bar help and grounds keepers and everyone else
for their generosity and support for the Martinez Gun Club CYSSA Team!
Your investment in the Team is an investment in the Martinez Gun Club and the future of trap shooting!
And lets not forget the De La Salle shooting team that has chosen our club as their practice grounds over all the other ranges in the Bay Area!!
Martinez Scholastic Clays Team Scores Big at Auburn!!
Our Scholastic Clays Team turned in a phenominal performance winning 4 of 6 possible medals in Auburn!
We SWEPT ALL THREE MEDALS, FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD in the Intermediate Division! Congratulations to Casey, Eric and Nathan!
AND our youth won THIRD place in Junior Varsity after a greuling FIVE ROUND SHOOT OFF! Congrats Grant!
And that is after a prior stunning round of victories at Livermore with FIRST and THIRD in Intermediate,
preceeded by THREE MEDALS at our first hosting of a CYSSA shoot taking FIRST and SECOND in Intermediate and THIRD in Junior Varsity!
Many of our youth team participate in our Club Shoots and other registered shoots, so keep an eye on the future of or Club!
Boy Scouts
The Martinez Gun Club works closely with the Boy Scouts of America to bring shooting sports and shooting safety training to our youth.
Our club is located in the Mt. Diablo Silverado Council
and the Martinez Gun Club currently hosts two programs:
a Shooting Sports Merit Badge Camp and a Marksmanship Shoot.
Both Scout activities are supervised by NRA and BSA certified range instructors and are
intently focused on learning and exercising range safety.
Shooting Sports Merit Badge Camp is a weekend program in the spring
designed to fully qualify Scouts for their shotgun, rifle or archery merit badges.
This camp gives Scouts an opportunity only otherwise available at Scout summer camps.
In fact, this dedicated weekend gives them more hands-on qualifying shooting time than they normally get in a
whole week at summer camp where shooting merit badges are only a small portion of those camps!
In the last three years, 177 out of 180 Scouts earned their merit badge!
Marksmanship Shoot is Saturday activity in the fall designed as an opportunity for Scouts to practice their shooting skills
in all three shooting sports; shotgun, rifle and archery and earn individual marksmanship awards based upon nationally recognized standards.
Of course, Scouts Troops and Crews are always welcome to shoot at our club as part of their Troop program.
The Martinez Gun Club is proud to have the opportunity to offer our facilities for youth programs,
and of course we invite the whole family to join the Martinez Gun Club!
